Read&Write: Reading Essentials
November 5, 2025 @ 5:00 pm - 5:30 pm
Convergys Learning Centre, Main Floor – BU Library
Do you find getting through required textbook readings a challenge? Can understating dense academic articles feel overwhelming? Do you experience information overload and find it difficult to retain what you’ve read?
In this 30-minute session, Student Accessibility Specialists will provide an overview of how students can use the Read&Write tool, along with a selection of learning strategies, to help navigate these challenges.
Read&Write is a versatile literacy support toolbar that helps students read, write, study, and research with confidence. For this session, we will look at how students can use the Read&Write toolbar to:
- Read aloud text from websites, PDFs, or Word documents to help with focus, retention, and comprehension
- Understand words with vocabulary lists, picture and text dictionaries
- Annotate PDFs with highlights, sticky notes, and summary features to break down dense text into manageable sections
- Reduce visual distraction with the screen masking tool that directs focus on one line or section at a time
- Convert text into audio so you can review information on the go
It works with websites, PDFs, and Brandon University platforms such as Moodle and Microsoft Office 365 web apps. Read&Write is free for all students and can also be accessed off campus using your Brandon University account.
All students are welcome!
