Franz Schubert’s Octet in F Major, D.803, was commissioned by clarinetist Ferdinand Troyer, who wished to have a work similar to Beethoven’s Septet in E-flat major, op.20, which the BCP performed last season.

Also on the programme is Schubert’s song Der Wanderer, the inspiration for the opening movement of the Octet.
