Brandon University proud to support the 2019 Tim Hortons Brier

Brandon University will be cheering on a former BU Bobcat as an Official Partner at the 2019 Tim Hortons Brier this week in Brandon.

BU will be on-site at the Keystone Centre during all three draws on Tuesday, March 5. The BU booth, featuring giveaways and a free draw, will be located at the east end of the main concourse, near the Amphitheatre entrance.

Tuesday will feature two opportunities to cheer on the hometown team, skipped by former Bobcat Mike McEwen. In 2003, McEwen represented Brandon University while skipping Team Canada to a world university championship. On Tuesday, he’ll face off against Newfoundland & Labrador during the 9 a.m. draw, then play the Northern Ontario rink during the 7 p.m. draw.

“The Brier is one of Canada’s premier sporting events and we’re thrilled to be a part of it,” said Grant Hamilton, BU’s Director of Marketing and Communications. “It is perfect that we will be here at home to cheer on a Bobcat Wall-of-Famer.”

Tuesday is also the Prairie Plaid Party at the Brier, where fans are invited to show their inner lumberjack by wearing plaid shirts, and trying out axe throwing in the Patch.

Then, BU returns on Thursday, March 7, with Student Night at the Patch. Teams of BU students will face off in a tournament of ‘human foosball’ from 9–10:30 p.m., followed by a chance for everyone to try.

Throughout the week, BU is also celebrating curling’s long and distinguished history at the university with a series of ads in the Tankard Times that highlight special curling moments and famous names from the past. Watch for each unique ad in the daily editions of the Times, which is available as a daily newsletter at the Brier or online at https://www.curling.ca/2019brier/tankard-times.

Along with a large official Brandon University presence, many members of the BU community are already volunteering all week for the Brier, and many more also have tickets to take in the on-ice action.

Brandon University also gave away a number of tickets to the Brier, randomly drawn from all faculty and staff. The following faculty and staff each took home a pair of tickets:
