Friday, October 12th, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Health Studies Complex, Room 043

Event Navigation

This internal event is open to Brandon University faculty and staff only, and is not open to the general public.

Brandon University’s standalone sexualized violence policy was approved by the Board of Governors in Spring 2017 and is in place. The purpose of this policy is to promote a culture of consent and respect, develop awareness and prevention of sexualized violence, reduce the occurrence of sexualized violence, and respond to the needs of the complainants respondents and all those affected by sexualized violence. This Policy also includes an ongoing commitment to the safety of the University community and to social change.

This presentation will highlight the rationale and research behind the policy and procedures, such as it being survivor-centred, trauma-informed, inclusive and gender specific. Members will also learn the language surrounding sexualized violence and the important distinction of a disclosure versus a report of sexualized violence. Participants can expect:

  • To learn the accompanying protocol/procedures and develop an understanding of how to best utilize them to best serve survivors on our campus.
  • Be exposed to highlights of the policy and how it may impact you.
  • How to respond if someone discloses sexualized violence to you and how you can assist them.
  • Hear your feedback.

Workshop Facilitator: Carla Navid, Sexualized Violence Education and Prevention Coordinator
