We have limited space, an amazing view, and an infinite sky. Join us for our annual Canada Day Observing from Brandon University’s Astronomical Observatory where we will observe four or more planets!

The telescope in the observatory has recently been fully cleaned, and the rooftop deck has been rebuilt, adding new space. However, space is still limited, with room for approximately 50 people, and we require reservations for this popular event.

Guests will meet observatory volunteers on the main floor of McMaster Hall in front of Ancillary Services to be escorted to the roof. Best parking is in Lot 4 behind the library. Please use the glass link entrance between Darrach Hall and Harvest Hall.

Please reserve a free ticket on eventbrite for each attendee including youth. Reservations begin at noon on Thursday, June 28, 2018.

Doors will be open at 9:00 p.m. and observations of planets will begin right away! There will be fireworks at 10:30 p.m., weather permitting.

Space is limited on the roof, therefore lawn chairs are only permitted if previously arranged. Contact us at buao@brandonu.ca, if this is a concern.

We will be continuously monitoring the weather for the evening, if there is lightening brewing we will unfortunately be unable to occupy the roof. Brandon University will also be hosting a Canada Day observation at the Riverbank Discovery Centre. Thank-you to our amazing volunteers we have, as well as the involvement of the local Brandon and Area Astronomical Society, and additional student Community Astronomers at BU, for making these events possible.
