The Department of Geography and Environment at Brandon University (BU) is excited to host the 44th annual conference of the Prairie Division of the Canadian Association of Geographers (CAG).

The event will take place virtually, on Friday, Sept. 24 and Saturday, Sept. 25. Registration is free at BrandonU.ca/pcag.

The conference kicks off Friday with a keynote at 7:30 p.m. by Dr. Gordon Goldsborough, popular for his weekly series on Manitoba history on CBC Radio 1. Dr. Goldsborough will speak about “Mapping historic Manitoba: development, themes, and applications.” Members of the public are welcome to join.

Dr. Goldsborough is an active member of the Manitoba Historical Society, being President, Head Researcher, Webmaster, and an Editor of the peer-reviewed journal Prairie History. He has mapped thousands of historic sites around the Manitoba and has written four books on Manitoba history including the national bestsellers Abandoned Manitoba and More Abandoned Manitoba.

The pandemic has made many of us more familiar and aware or our local and regional geographies. People are thinking more about the importance of where we live and our relationship with the environment. The virtual meeting is an important opportunity for students, faculty, and community members to learn more and share perspectives, concepts, tools, and information that contribute to better local and global futures.

Brandon University is committed to being an accessible institution. To ensure that any event is available to all who are interested in attending, please advise us in advance of any accessibility considerations. Accessibility contact: communications@brandonu.ca
