Celebration of Violin Solo Works
Violinist Karl Stobbe presents video recordings of all 6 Bach Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin, each paired with another solo work by Paganini, Biber, Bartok, Prokofiev, Ysaÿe and Canadian composer Michael Oesterle. Beyond just hearing the music, brief talks about the history of the solo music for the violin, violin history, composers, and introductions to all the pieces are included in each streamed concert.
Brandon University will be hosting streams of the six concerts over three Sunday afternoons:
- Sunday March 7 Concert 1+2 @ 2:30 pm
- Sunday March 21 Concert 3+4 @ 2:30 pm
- Sunday March 28 Concert 5+6 @ 2:30 pm
Please email email@example.com for Zoom link info.
A WSO virituoso, Stobbe is recognized as one of Canada’s most accomplished and diverse violinists, noted for his generous, rich sound, and long, poignant phrasing. As an orchestra director, concertmaster, soloist, or chamber musician, he has been an audience favorite in small settings and large venues. Avie Records’ recording of Karl performing Ysaÿe’s Solo Violin Sonatas was nominated for a JUNO Award, and received worldwide attention, including London’s Sunday Times who called Karl “a master soloist, recalling the golden age of violin playing… producing a breathtaking range of tone colours.”
Pursuing his life-long love of the music for solo violin, Karl has recently created an online concert series featuring all the Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin by J.S. Bach. He has performed in North America’s most famous concert halls, including New York’s Carnegie Hall and Boston’s Jordan Hall, and has shared the stage with some of the most important and eclectic violinists of our day, from James Ehnes to Mark O’Connor.
Brandon University is committed to being an accessible institution. To ensure that any event is available to all who are interested in attending, please advise us in advance of any accessibility considerations. Accessibility contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
