Join the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee in celebrating Asian Heritage month by attending a demonstration by Becky Chinn. Becky will demonstrate simple Chinese calligraphy as well as bamboo and orchid brush painting, while discussing the history and technique of this art form.

Becky Chinn was born and raised in San Francisco. As a child she learned Chinese calligraphy in Chinese school. In 2006 and 2007 she studied Chinese brush painting/calligraphy with BU visiting professor Xiren Qian from Nanjing for two semesters.

As a professional violinist she has performed in a number of professional orchestras. She has been a violin teacher at Brandon University Conservatory since 1984. Between 2007 and 2014 she taught many classes in watercolour, Chinese brush painting, calligraphy and origami to adults and children at the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba. In 2011 she received a Manitoba Arts Council grant to participate in a watercolour workshop with Alvaro Castagnet in Vancouver.
