Event Navigation

Brandon University is proud to participate in Doors Open Brandon 2019.

This year marks the 18th annual Doors Open Brandon — an opportunity for visitors to explore local buildings that may not always open to the public. Although the Brandon University campus is always open, we are pleased to welcome community members to Doors Open, and in particular to the historic Original Building and Clark Hall complex.

Doors Open takes place July 20 and 21 and celebrates Brandon’s vibrant history through the exploration of its unique architecture. Doors will be open from 1–5 p.m. each day, including access to the Bell Tower. Please note that there is a steep staircase required to access the Bell Tower.

On Saturday afternoon, July 20, there will also be access available to tour the Brandon University Observatory. Located atop McMaster Hall, at one of the highest points in Brandon, the BU Observatory houses the largest publicly accessible telescope between Kenora and Calgary. Tours are available between 1–4 p.m. Please meet at the Ancillary Services desk (located above the Rural Development Institute, come through the doors directly behind the 18th Street bus stop). Please note that stairs are required to access the McMaster rooftop and the Observatory.

On Sunday, July 21, Brandon University will also host guitarist and singer Jaimie Rose who will be playing from 2–4 p.m. in Clark Hall room 104 (formerly the location of the Brandon College chapel).

Originally from Hamiota, Jaimie Rose is a local cover artist who has been performing in the Westman area all her life. You may have seen her busking up at Riding Mountain National Park, or singing the National Anthem at the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair. She has been singing for over 16 years and playing guitar for about 10. Jaimie is currently enrolled at Brandon University’s School if Music in a 4 year Voice Performance degree and is hoping to make her love of performance into a career.

Visitors to Brandon University are encouraged to download the university’s free walking tour guide.
