Everyone invited to community tipi built at Brandon University
Event Navigation
Brandon University invites everyone to a community tipi build on the front lawn of campus, along 18th Street by Clark Hall. Five tipis are planned to be erected this this afternoon, beginning at 1 p.m., in a show of solidarity and resilience.
The tipis will be a dramatic visual statement of support and strength following the overnight fire that destroyed another tipi on campus early this morning. Brandon University has proudly been home to many tipis in the past without incident and we will continue to be. The fire, while hurtful, only reinforces the ongoing need to celebrate and honour Indigenous culture.
Even isolated incidents like these can cause emotional impacts that require care and attention. We remind everyone to practice self-care if required, and that there are supports available.
