Brandon University
Brandon University is proud to support the 1st Regiment of the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery from Canadian Forces Base Shilo as part of the Freedom of the City parade taking place in Brandon on Thursday, June 11.
The university will provide staging space on campus for approximately 120 soldiers and four military vehicles before the parade, which will start at 9:30 a.m. and march towards Brandon City Hall, where the Mayor will deliver an address.
Freedom of the City is a longstanding ceremonial tradition that recognizes the relationship between military units and the communities they serve. The event will see members of 1 RCHA exercise this historic honour through a military parade in Brandon.
As a community partner, Brandon University is pleased to assist with the event and values its longstanding relationship with CFB Shilo and the Canadian Armed Forces. The university is honoured to play a role in supporting an event that highlights the strong connections between military personnel and the broader Westman community.
Members of the Brandon University community are encouraged to attend and spectate the parade. The invitation extends particularly to current-serving part-time military members, veterans and other military-affiliated faculty, staff and students, while all students and members of the public are welcome to attend and show their support.
To accommodate the staging area, Brandon University’s Lot 10 will be closed at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, and for all day on June 11.
