Hello BU Students, Faculty, Staff, and Surrounding Garden Community!

*CALL OUT FOR VOLUNTEERS*

Did you know that there are two community gardens at Brandon University where vegetables are grown to aid in the fight against food insecurity in our community? Our produce is donated to Samaritan House Ministries and the BUSU food bank! The gardens are also used as teaching classrooms for Mini University students.

We are excited to start gardening again this year, and definitely can’t do it without your help! We won’t ask for much of your time, but would like to organize a few work bees over the summer, and we are looking for as many hands as we can get, to help us with planting and caring for our crops.

Spring is here and we would like to get the gardens ready for planting as soon as possible: we’ve picked the first date for a work bee, and we hope that you will join us!

The first work bee will be our “Composting Blitz”, which will take place on May 19th, from 2-4pm. I know this is a long weekend, but if you are around please come out! We will be wheelbarrowing, shoveling, and spreading compost onto each garden plot so they will be ready for tilling and planting that much sooner.

Please meet us in front of the doors to the RDI building, beside the bookstore, and we’ll start with the planters there, and then make our way to the Flora beds. Bring a shovel and some garden gloves if you happen to have them!
