The Brandon University Visual and Aboriginal Arts Department presents “In Transition,” a Bachelor of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibition by Marin Curtis

Marin Curtis is a transgender Brandon-based visual artist. Her art creates a space for her to exist as a transgender woman. In this mixed media exhibition, Marin uses art as a tool to speak about her gender transition from male to female by investigating specific self-documented feelings and experiences.

Whether negative or positive, Marin explores these incidents through drawing, sculpture, watercolour, and video artworks. She disassociates the image of her own body from its original form using repeating lines, shapes, and motifs. Her visual language conveys and confronts her own issues with body, gender identity, and gender dysphoria (the incongruence between one’s mental gender and gender assigned at birth). Marin aims to humanize the experience of her transition by creating empathic spaces between her artworks and her viewers.

The exhibition will run Thursday April 4 through Friday April 12, with an opening reception on Thursday, April 4, from 7-9 p.m.

Come see it at the Glen P. Sutherland Galley of Art, 2021 Victoria Ave. Gallery hours are from 2-6 p.m., Monday to Saturday. The entrance to the gallery is from the parking lot to the north of the building.
