There are two primary pieces of access and privacy legislation that apply to public bodies, including Brandon University – The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA). FIPPA and PHIA provide the public the right of access to records in the custody or under the control of the University, while safeguarding the privacy of individuals. The Acts ensure privacy by placing restrictions on the collection, use and disclosure of personal information by public bodies and personal health information by trustees.
In this session, we will learn more about:
- FIPPA and PHIA
- Key definitions
- The privacy landscape in post-secondary
- Protection of privacy
- Access, collection, use and disclosure, security safeguards, decision making and reasonableness
- Breach of Privacy
