TONIGHT!!!!!!
La Bohème
A National Tour of opera at bars across Canada
Taking place in the WMCA Foyer
Wednesday, October 2 – 7:30pm
Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium – foyer
Against the Grain Theatre (AtG) hits the road for its first ever national tour of LA BOHÈME!
Against the Grain Theatre presents: LA Bohème! #AtGBoheme — A modern love story sung in English. In a bar!
The AtG production that started it all, and uprooted opera from the opera house. Our modern adaptation and English translation of the Puccini classic shifted the tale of struggling artists to the present-day, and unfolded entirely inside a historic bar.
This fall, we tour the fully-staged remount of our acclaimed, groundbreaking English “transladaptation” of the Puccini classic. Presenting to audiences from Banff and Toronto; ending at the historic Tranzac Club.
The story is set in modern-day Toronto. We’re not at Café Momus, but at The Tranzac Club: the most comforting dive bar in the heart of the Annex. This is La Bohème. Experience it (with a beer in hand) for the first time.
What You Need to Know About the Performance:
Doors open at 7:00pm. At 7:30pm, the performance begins.

About AtG
In December of 2010, Toronto’s opera scene received a jolt of energy with the formation of Against the Grain Theatre (AtG). With a goal to reinvigorate the operatic art form by presenting an eclectic array of musical works in unconventional spaces and innovative ways, AtG staged its first performance to a sold- out audience of 50 people, and with that the company was off and running. Since that first season, AtG has packed every single one of its productions with standing room-only crowds, winning a consistent level of critical and public acclaim, and picking up nine Dora Mavor Moore Awards along the way. The arts community has embraced the AtG, as has a much wider, more diverse audience of people who may have never considered attending an opera. The company has brought free monthly Opera Pubs to its diverse audience, and was the inaugural Company-in-Residence at the Canadian Opera Company. Founded by an adventurous collective of friends and artists, the company’s mission is to preserve the company’s unique ability to be serious in intent and execution, yet fun and irreverent in spirit.
