Presented by: Shandra Czarnecki, BA, LLB, Partner at MLT Aikins
This live, virtual presentation provides the opportunity to explore the topic of accommodations in the workplace in times of COVID. Led by Shandra Czarnecki, Winnipeg-based lawyer and frequent presenter with the Centre for Labour Management Development, this presentation will provide an overview of basic principles and legal obligations in relation to accommodations in the workplace, such as:
- an employer’s duty to accommodate based on protected characteristics under the Human Rights Code
- reasonable accommodation to the point of undue hardship
- roles and responsibilities of the employer/employee throughout the accommodation process
Additionally, we will look at how the pandemic and related changes to workplace operations have presented circumstances that many employers/service providers and employees may be encountering for the first time and how to apply established principles to the duty to accommodate during the pandemic.
