The Brandon University Visual and Aboriginal Arts Department present A Stranger in a Strange Land, the Bachelor of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibition by Mao Guolixuan.

The exhibition will run from Thursday, March 14 until Saturday, March 23, 2019 at the Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art, 2021 Victoria Avenue, Brandon.  Entrance to the gallery is from the parking lot to the north of the building.

In the exhibition A Stranger in a Strange Land, Mao Guolixuan draws a straight line between travelling and adapting to a new culture and new land. Mao explores episodes from her experience, and memories evolving as a traveler’s journey.

Mao has arranged her sensational and emotional ideas in the watercolours, oil paintings and ceramics. She has used the white deer and the deer girl to represent herself in the journey of finding her identity. The exhibition is rendered with surreal, fantastical, abstract expressions, challenge the sense of culture shock and isolation, and leave expressive feelings in the viewer’s mind.

Gallery hours are 2-6 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 3-7 p.m. Saturday.

Opening reception will be held from 7-9 p.m., Thursday, March 14.
