SUMMARY:Back to the Process: BFA Thesis Exhibition Opening
DESCRIPTION:IshKaabatens Waasa Gaa Inaabateg Department of Visual Art presents: \nBack to the Process \nA BFA Thesis Exhibition by Haylee Janai \nOpening Reception: April 9 at 7:00 pm \nThe Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art \nHaylee Janai was born into a fully plugged-in world\, yet raised within a hands-on\, craft-centred family. This contrast informs her focus on the potential obsolescence of the human hand in an increasingly digital culture. Through cyanotype and ceramic sculpture\, she draws on lived experience to examine how touch\, skill\, and process persist or fade amid accelerating technological change. \nHaylee Janai would like to extend very special thank you to the Manitoba Arts Council for a Learn Scholarship\, which greatly assisted in the creation of this project. She would also like to send a heartfelt thank you to her professors and peers of the IshKaabatensWaasa Gaa Inaabateg Department of Visual Art at Brandon University for the knowledge and assistance gained throughout her university experience. \nThe exhibition will be on display April 10-11 and 14-18\, 2026. The gallery hours are: 2:00-6:00 pm. Admission is free. The Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art is located at 2021 Victoria Ave\, Brandon\, MB. Parking is available in the north lot facing the building. Please use the red doors on the north entrance. \nNightingale I: sang so sweetlyEarthenware\, Electric-kiln fired to 955°Ccyanotype\, rustoleum finish2026\, 20″x18″x9.5″

SUMMARY:Brandon Pride - National Canadian Film Day
DESCRIPTION:It’s almost National Canadian Film Day again!! Brandon Pride is hosting another CanFilmDay movie at the BU Library Gathering Space on Saturday\, April 11th starting at 1:45pm. \nThis year the film is Ruthless Souls directed by Madison Thomas. https://youtu.be/nBofbV1aALQ \nJackalope “Jackie” Cambell (Galloway) is a tough as nails Ojibwe artist born and raised in Winnipeg\, Manitoba. On the first anniversary of her partner’s tragic death\, Jackie copes with her guilt and loneliness by drinking and smoking up. When Jackie finds out that her best friend Rooney has split-up with her long time partner Tay\, she feels her remaining relationships are in peril. Rooney and Tay are Jackie’s only friends\, and have been each other’s pillars of support since they were kids. \nA visually alluring film full of heavy emotions and sharp\, witty dialogue\, Ruthless Souls confronts the pain of loss and highlights the human ability to overcome grief. Madison Thomas’ sophomore premiered at ImagineNative 2019. \nBrandon Pride is excited to be able to offer a free viewing of this film with CanFilmDay and showcase a Manitoban-made film. Snacks will be available to enjoy during the movie. \nPlease note there is no MPAA rating for this film but it is a heavy emotional drama and may not be suitable for younger audiences. \nA smudging ceremony will be performed at this event.

SUMMARY:Guest Speaker: Manitoba Access Awareness Week
DESCRIPTION:Join Cree Filmmaker & Storyteller Julianna Maggrah as she shares stories of growing up on Kitsaki Reserve near La Ronge\, Saskatchewan — often feeling isolated and like an outsider looking in\, due to the intense way she experienced the world around her. It wasn’t until Julianna was diagnosed with autism in her late twenties and began connecting with her Indigenous culture\, that she started to understand herself better. \n\nLearning about Indigenous perspectives of autism including pîtoteyihtam – a Cree word meaning “those who think differently” and Māori teachings that honour the strengths and unique ways people with autism move through the world “in their own time and space”\, opened the door for Julianna to accept and embrace the parts of who she is that she long felt the need to suppress. \n\nAll are invited to attend! \n\nWhile registration to attend is not required\, it is helpful for us to know approximately how many people may be in attendance. If you are planning to attend\, please take a moment to let us know by completing this form. MAAW 2026 – Event Form

SUMMARY:Rattle: A Sixties Scoop Play (Winnipeg event)
DESCRIPTION:Root Sky Theatre\, in association with Theatre Incarnate\, is proud to premiere Rattle: A Sixties Scoop Play at the University of Winnipeg’s Asper Centre for Theatre & Film\, June 3 – 7\, 2026. Rattle is based on the true stories of Sixties Scoop survivors Robert Doucette and Roberta MacKinnon. \nDan and Bobbie have lived on the same North End street for decades and consider themselves family. They also share a similar history – both were taken from their Indigenous mothers as small children and adopted out into white families. They lost their family\, their culture\, their identity. Dan\, now working for a Métis organization\, has faced his past and is fighting for the future of fellow Sixties Scoop survivors. Bobbie is not so sure she wants to know why her mother gave her up as a newborn infant. Both their lives\, and their families’\, will be changed in unexpected ways as they struggle to understand who they are and where they belong. Rattle received an award for Best Full-Length Play in the Theatre BC Canadian National Playwriting Competition for 2022. \nIt is the fourth in a series of plays by Brandon University professors Darrell Racine and Dale Lakevold that explores Indigenous culture and history in Canada. \nPerformances:\n7:30 p.m. nightly (June 3 — 6)\n2 p.m. matinee (June 6 — 7) \nSharing Circle for Survivors & Those Affected: \nJune 3 — 5 (2 — 4 p.m.) / June 6 — 7 (10 a.m. — 12 noon) \nVenue:\nAsper Centre for Theatre and Film\n400 Colony St.\, Winnipeg MB Tickets:\n$25 | $35 If You Can | $10 Limited Income \nBUY TICKETS
