Do you find dense readings overwhelming\, making it easy to lose focus? Would reading a text in a different language help with understanding? \nThe YuJa Panorama digital accessibility platform provides students with access to Alternative Formats to meet their accessibility needs. \nAlternative formats allow for the conversion of documents into a wide variety of accessible documents including: \n\nsource\, PDF and text files\nimmersive reader for audio playback\ngradient reader for visual word recognition when reading\nePub to download the document in eBook format\naudio podcast for audio playback\nBraille grade 2 format for downloading\nOCR formats for images with text to be searched and read by screen readers\nmath formats to convert equations into LaTeX\nlanguage translation to over 100 languages\n\nLet’s explore these together in this 30-minute session\, facilitated by Student Accessibility Specialists.

For this session\, we will look at how students can use the Read&Write toolbar to: \n\nRead aloud text from websites\, PDFs\, or Word documents to help with focus\, retention\, and comprehension\nUnderstand words with vocabulary lists\, picture and text dictionaries\nAnnotate PDFs with highlights\, sticky notes\, and summary features to break down dense text into manageable sections\nReduce visual distraction with the screen masking tool that directs focus on one line or section at a time\nConvert text into audio so you can review information on the go\n\nIt works with websites\, PDFs\, and Brandon University platforms such as Moodle and Microsoft Office 365 web apps. SUMMARY:Open Horizons: Affordability and Access through Open Education
DESCRIPTION:The time for the Manitoba Open Education Symposium on June 11th and 12th is fast approaching.  It is focused on the question: \n“How do we build an open and accessible education system that fosters digital innovation\, cross-institutional collaboration\, and student affordability?” \nDisruptions due to tariffs and censorship in the U.S. is only making the question more critical. \nBrandon University will be hosting a common room to live stream the event. Anyone who wishes to gather with their Westman colleagues is very welcome to attend in person. \nThis is a FREE event co-organized by Campus Manitoba\, Assiniboine College\, RRC Polytech\, the University of Manitoba\, and the University of Winnipeg.   Lunch and break refreshments will be provided.  The agenda is attached. \nIf anyone is unregistered\,  but wanting to attend in person\, please contact Carmen Kazakoff-Lane at  kazakoff@brandonu.ca. Online registration for in person events has closed but Carmen can register people until the end of Friday and ensure that the caterers are updated in time for the event. \nIf you simply wish to attend any session\, you are welcome to attend without registering\, but food will not be provided. \nDetails:\n\nWhen: June 11 and 12\, 2025\nBrandon University Location: Convergys Lab\, Main Floor\, in the John E.
