On September 16, 2022, while in custody, the Iranian morality police mercilessly murdered Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish-Iranian woman. Mahsa encountered police brutality because her hijab was not in accordance with hijab laws in Iran. Her brutal murder instigated a series of ongoing protests and human rights actions in Iran, as young people are demanding emancipation from gender segregation laws in Iran. The English, Drama and Creative Writing Literary Exchange presents Walking Home: Cross-cultural Exchange in Rural Manitoba. In 2016, the Green Acres Hutterite Colony sponsored a Syrian refugee family. Elaine Hofer tells this story in her talk and slide show. This event is supported by the Dean of Arts Office.
