Brandon University Big Band Dance

This year’s Big Band Dance, staged by the Brandon University Big Band (BUBB), kicks off Black History Month at BU.
Under the direction of Michael Cain, the BUBB will play a wide range of music from the black diaspora. Selections will include music by Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Aretha Franklin, Curtis Mayfield, Redbone, Sister Nancy, Bruno Mars, Fela Kuti, and Kendrick Lamar among others.
The Big Band touches on swing music, jazz, funk, soul, R&B, reggae, African music, and hip hop in its performances.
The concert will be held on Friday, Feb. 2 at Forbidden Flavours Brandon University in the Knowles-Douglas Students’ Union Centre, beginning at 10 p.m. General admission will be $12, while BU Music students will be able to attend for $10.
Brandon University will celebrate Black History Month throughout February. Other plans include a display in the John E. Robbins Library, as well as a scavenger hunt, featuring books by Black Canadian authors as prizes.
