Celebrating the Legacy of Maurice Ravel
The Clear Lake Chamber Music Festival continues its tribute to Ravel with a unique evening that reimagines some of the composer’s most iconic works. Join us on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at 7:30 pm, in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall, QEII Music Building, Room 1-60, Brandon University.
Audiences will enjoy rarely-heard arrangements that bring fresh perspectives to Ravel’s genius:
- Shéhérazade, arranged for voice, flute, and piano — rich in exotic colors and storytelling, featuring Sharon Rogers, BU alumna making her festival debut, and Nancy Hennen, acclaimed flutist known for her expressive artistry.
- Boléro, reimagined for two pianos — Ravel’s ever-popular rhythmic masterpiece, familiar to many, now presented in a powerful, intimate, and thrilling two-piano arrangement, offering a completely new way to experience its hypnotic drive.
- Concerto for the Left Hand in D Major, arranged for two pianos — originally composed for Paul Wittgenstein, who lost the use of his right arm during World War I. Ravel’s ingenious writing transforms it into a rich, virtuosic, and unforgettable experience playable entirely with the left hand.
Performers:
- Sharon Rogers, soprano — gifted singer and pianist, BU alumna making her festival debut
- Nancy Hennen, flute — acclaimed flutist and educator, formerly principal of Symphony Hamilton
- Alexander Tselyakov, piano — Artistic Director, renowned for his vision and artistry
- Daniel Tselyakov, piano — Artistic Director, bringing energy and depth to every performance and to the festival’s innovative programming
This concert promises brilliance, creativity, and exceptional performances, highlighting Ravel’s timeless music in fresh and unforgettable arrangements.
