Event Navigation

Sex clubs, and their rapidly growing presence in the United Kingdom, will be discussed when a researcher from England give a public talk at the Brandon University (BU) library next week.

More than 30,000 people across the UK now visit these clubs, known in the past as swingers or swap clubs, to engage in consensual sex. Despite this prevalence, very little is known about those who visit the sex clubs and what happens there.

Dr. Chris Haywood will help to fill in those blanks when he shares his research on sex clubs and their role in the UK’s growing, and increasingly mainstream, sexual experience economy. The free talk will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 6 p.m., in the Gathering Space of the John E. Robbins Library. A wine-and-cheese reception will follow the talk.

Dr. Haywood is a Reader in Critical Masculinity Studies at Newcastle University. His most recent book, Men, Masculinity and Contemporary Dating, was published in 2018.

He will spend the week in Brandon and will also deliver guest presentations to classes on topics ranging from intimacy, gender and edgy sex to sociological research methods.

Brandon University is committed to being an accessible institution. To ensure that any event is available to all who are interested in attending, please advise us in advance of any accessibility considerations. Accessibility contact: communications@brandonu.ca
